1. Introduction
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. This policy outlines how Creatively Conscious Counselling & Therapy protects and promotes the welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk.
As a sole practitioner, I am not a statutory service and do not investigate safeguarding concerns. However, I have a duty to recognise, respond to, and report concerns where there is a risk of harm.
2. Purpose
- Protect individuals from harm

- Reassure clients that concerns are taken seriously
3. Scope
This policy applies to all services, including online sessions, home visits, and work with adults, children, and young people.
4. Framework
Practice follows the BACP Ethical Framework, the Children (Scotland) Act 1995, the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007, and the Data Protection Act 2018.
5. Definitions of Abuse
Includes physical, emotional, sexual abuse, neglect, financial abuse, coercive control, self-harm risk, and exploitation.
6. Safeguarding Principles

7. Confidentiality
Confidentiality may be broken where there is a risk of harm to self or others, or where there is a legal obligation.

9. Working with Children
Parental consent is required unless competence is established. Child safety is prioritised.
10. Record Keeping
Accurate, secure records are maintained in line with GDPR.

Regular supervision supports safeguarding decisions.
